The title of the second book in Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, "Dragonfly in Amber," evokes the image of an iridescent insect immortalized in resin. Words similarly trap the wings of our emotions, flapping vigorously one moment, narrated as past in the next. But even if the lived essence of our experiences will have been lost, our written stories offer some consolation.
